Jesus Christ is not merely a figure in history; He is the central figure of all history, the One through whom all things were created. The apostle Paul declares this truth:
“For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16, BSB).
He is the divine agent of creation, present from the beginning, through whom the world came into being.
In the Hebrew Scriptures, Jesus is foreshadowed and anticipated as the promised Messiah. From the promise of a deliverer in Genesis to the suffering servant prophesied in Isaiah, Christ was long awaited, the One in whom all the promises of God find their fulfillment (2 Corinthians 1:20). He is the Word of God made flesh, as John tells us:
“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14, BSB).
In Christ, the fullness of God dwells bodily (Colossians 2:9), and He walked this earth as fully God and fully man—sinless, perfect, and righteous in every way.
But Jesus is more than a historical or theological figure. He is my Savior, the One who bore my sins on the cross, taking the punishment I deserved so that I could be reconciled to God. He rescued me from sin and from hell, offering forgiveness and eternal life through His sacrifice. He is not only my Savior, but also my Lord and my God, to whom I owe my allegiance and worship. As Thomas declared upon seeing the risen Christ, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28, BSB).
Jesus is the Shepherd of my heart, guiding and protecting me through the ups and downs of life. He is the One who lifts my head when I am weary and discouraged, reminding me that I am never alone. In Psalm 3:3, we find the comforting truth:
“But You, O LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head” (BSB).
He is the lover of my soul, the One who knows me fully and loves me deeply, even when I feel unworthy of that love.
In life’s many trials, when my heart breaks and tears flow, Jesus is my joy. He is my only hope in life and in death, the one constant who never fails me. As Paul writes, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21, BSB).
In every season, whether in joy or in sorrow, Jesus is my covenant, my steadfast anchor, my greatest treasure.
Who is Jesus Christ? He is everything—my Savior, my Lord, my hope, my joy, my life.
