Look to Jesus and Be Saved!

On a snowy day in 1850, young Charles Spurgeon wandered into a small Methodist chapel, burdened by guilt and doubt. The preacher, a humble layman, read this verse from Isaiah and repeated a single command: “Look!”

That simple word pierced Spurgeon’s heart. He later said, “I had been waiting to do fifty things, but when I heard that word, ‘Look!’ what a charming word it seemed to me!” In that moment, Spurgeon turned his eyes to Jesus and found the salvation he had long sought. From then on, his life was marked by an unwavering focus on Christ and an earnest desire to share the message of hope found in Him.

Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else. Isaiah 45:22 ASV

The call to “look” is as relevant today as it was in Spurgeon’s time—or Isaiah’s. It is a command that speaks directly to the heart, urging us to focus on what truly matters: Jesus Christ. To look to Him is to turn our attention from the fleeting distractions of the world to the one who can give us peace, purpose, and eternal life.

God’s word is filled with reminders to lift our eyes to the Lord. Psalm 121:1-2 declares, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

When we are overwhelmed by life’s challenges, the act of looking to God realigns our perspective, reminding us of His power and faithfulness. He is our helper, the one who created and sustains all things.

To look to Jesus is also to trust Him completely.

Looking to Jesus means more than a fleeting glance; it means fixing our hearts and minds on Him. Hebrews 12:2 calls us to focus on “Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Christ endured the agony of the cross so that we could be saved. When we look to Him, we see not only our Savior but also the one who gives us the strength to face life’s trials.

Proverbs 3:5-6 urges us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” Trusting God means surrendering our own desires and plans, believing that He knows what is best for us. It also means following His example, as Peter writes: “Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in His steps” (1 Peter 2:21). To look to Jesus is to walk as He walked, living in obedience and love.

Looking to Jesus also involves turning away from sin.

The command to “turn to Me” in Isaiah 45:22 implies repentance—a recognition that we have fallen short of God’s standard and need His forgiveness. Romans 3:23 reminds us, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Yet there is great hope in God’s promise: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

When we look to Christ, we find not condemnation but grace. The invitation to look to Jesus is for everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from. Isaiah’s call is addressed to “all you ends of the earth.” Jesus Himself said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

No other path leads to salvation—only Christ. And for those who turn to Him, the rewards are immense. Romans 5:1 promises, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” This peace transcends circumstances and anchors us in the hope of eternal life. Jesus also offers an abundant life here and now: “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).

Looking to Jesus changes everything.

It gives us a new perspective, a new purpose, and a new hope. It means acknowledging that He is our Savior, trusting Him to lead us, and turning from sin to walk in His ways. When we look to Him, we find peace in the midst of chaos, joy in the face of sorrow, and hope that endures forever.

Today, hear the call afresh: “Look (turn) to Me and be saved.” Don’t wait to do fifty things. Simply look. Jesus is waiting, and in Him, you will find all that your heart longs for.
