The Seal of Salvation: The Spirit of Christ in Us

Blessed Assuance

The greatest evidence that Jesus has saved a person is not found in mere words or religious observance, but in the indwelling presence of the Spirit of Christ. When a sinner comes to Christ in true faith, believing that His blood alone cleanses from sin, something miraculous takes place—God Himself takes up residence within them. This is not a temporary arrangement or a fleeting experience, but the permanent sealing of the soul in salvation.

The apostle Paul speaks of this reality when he writes, “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession, to the praise of His glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14, BSB). The Spirit of God is not only the guarantee of our future inheritance but the living proof that Christ has redeemed us. This assurance does not rest in emotion or outward signs but in the unshakable promise of God.

Many people wonder if they have truly been saved. Doubts creep in when trials arise, when sin still wars within, or when they do not “feel” as they believe they should. But the proof of salvation is not our ability to maintain a perfect record, nor is it found in a fleeting sense of peace. It is found in the reality that Christ Himself, through His Spirit, abides in us. Jesus declared, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.” (John 14:16-17, BSB). Forever. He does not come and go, nor does He abandon those He has claimed for Himself.

The Spirit does more than confirm our salvation; He actively transforms us. He convicts of sin, leads into truth, and strengthens in weakness. He is the reason a once-dead heart now beats with love for God. He is the source of new desires, a longing for righteousness, and the ability to cry out, “Abba, Father!” (Romans 8:15, BSB). Left to ourselves, we would turn away, but the Spirit within keeps us near to Christ.

If you belong to Christ, He will never forsake you. His blood has washed away every stain of sin, and His Spirit abides in you as the surest evidence of that salvation. Look to Him and rest in what He has done. If you have not yet come to Him, do not delay. Turn to Christ, believe in Him, and He will save you.

How does this truth shape your confidence in Christ today?
