There’s No Safety in Living Apart from God

“THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES.”  (Romans 3:18, NASB). “And there it is”, I said out loud, as I was driving; listening to D A Carson’s series; The God Who Is There. There it is, what? The explanation as to why the blatant display of approval for abortion; transgenderism; pride parades and public library story hour for kids featuring “the queens.”  Not only is there no fear; there’s no possibility of a God to be feared. The latter falls on the church for not presenting Yahweh as He is; a Deity to be reckoned with; One who should be considered dangerous; not tame.

The writer of Hebrews pulls no punches when he writes; “but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.”(Hebrews 10:27, NASB).

C S Lewis writes in the Chronicles of Narnia-“ Then he isn’t safe?” said Lucy. (Speaking of Aslan; the King) Safe?” said Mr. Beaver. “Don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ’Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.” Mrs. Beaver; says; “if there’s anyone who can appear before Aslan without their knees knocking, they’re either braver than most or else just silly.”(Ibid).

If the church or anyone at all; thinks that the God of the universe is one who isn’t one to be feared; they haven’t read the Bible; or truly knows Him. God is loving; there’s no reason to doubt that; but at the same time; He’s one who demands recognition of His sovereignty and holiness; there are rules pertaining to His kingdom.

I do shudder the end of those who will not bow their knees to the Lord; who persist on living life as they see fit regardless of what God has said in His Word concerning certain lifestyles. Though this is written originally to Israel; it does reflect the state of morality in our current culture-“Were they ashamed because of the abomination they have done? They were not even ashamed at all; They did not even know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; At the time that I punish them, They shall be cast down,” says the LORD.  (Jeremiah 6:15, NASB).

The line most potent in this passage is the loss of society’s ability to blush at the open display of sin and defiance of what the Lord accepts as right. One day there will be a reckoning; each of us will stand before the Lord as either His child or foe.

The verdict for the enemies of God should cause everyone to gasp; stop and take notice; “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”(Revelation 20:15, NASB). Surely one can see there’s no safety in living apart from God’s mercy and grace; it is clear that Yahweh is not a tamed deity; subject to our demands of how we want to live our lives. He will not be contained behind our walls.

I pray all of us will heed this warning; “It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”(Hebrews 10:31, NASB). Turn now while there’s still grace to be found. Amen.
