Day 4: Names carry weight. In the ancient world, a name was more than a label—it revealed identity, character, reputation, and even power. So when Scripture declares that “the name of the Lord is a strong fortress,” it is proclaiming something deeply theological and deeply personal. It’s not merely saying that God provides safety, but that who He is—His very name—is safety for the soul.
Proverbs 18:10 (NLT)
“The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.”
To run to the name of the Lord is to run into the full revelation of His character. His name is Faithful. His name is Just. His name is Redeemer. He is Provider, Shepherd, Fortress, Father, and Savior. Every name of God declared in Scripture is a doorway into understanding His heart. And every title is secured and fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ—our Emmanuel, our Deliverer, our Prince of Peace.
When trials rise or accusations swirl, the believer does not stand unprotected in the storm. She runs—not in panic, but in trust—to the One whose name is her covering. In Christ, we are no longer condemned but are hidden within the fortress of righteousness, mercy, and truth. His name is a shield. It repels the lies of the enemy, quiets the voice of fear, and silences the roar of shame.
Notice what the verse says: “the godly run to him and are safe.” This is not passive faith—it is responsive faith. We are not meant to slowly stroll toward help while chaos closes in. We run. And our safety doesn’t lie in how fast we run or how strong we feel, but in the strength of the One we run to.
This is the good news: the fortress is already open. The gates are never closed to His children. The name of Jesus has not lost its power. When you call on Him, you’re not calling into the void—you are entering a place where no weapon formed against you will prosper, and no enemy can snatch you away.
Application
Speak the name of the Lord over your circumstances. When fear arises or stress begins to overwhelm, declare His name—Jesus, Savior, Shepherd, Rock. Say it aloud. Meditate on His faithfulness. Let His name become your resting place today and your answer to every anxiety that presses in.

Prayer
Jesus, Your name is my refuge. You are not distant or delayed. You are near, and I run to You today. Be my strength, my hope, my defender. Let Your name silence the voice of fear and remind me that I am safe, not because of who I am, but because of who You are. I trust in Your name, the name above every name. Amen.
