Protected — Guarded by the Power of God

Day 12: There is a kind of protection that surpasses our ability to comprehend—protection not merely from the momentary storms of life, but from anything that could ever separate us from God’s love. This is the protection Peter speaks of: God Himself is shielding us, guarding us by His power, not our performance.

1 Peter 1:5 (NLT)
“And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.”

Through faith—simple, clinging, trusting faith—we are being kept for an inheritance that can never be touched by time, tragedy, or enemy hands.

The word Peter uses here for “protecting” (Greek phroureō) was used in military settings to describe soldiers guarding a city or a person from attack. That’s the image: the Almighty Himself standing watch over your soul. You are not unguarded. You are not exposed. You are surrounded by divine strength. And this is no temporary refuge—it is ongoing, active, and eternal.

Sometimes we wonder, Will I make it to the end? Will I stay faithful? Will I be strong enough? But the comfort of this verse is that the burden of ultimate security does not rest on us. It rests on the unbreakable, unrelenting power of God. He protects us not just from the outside dangers of persecution and spiritual attack, but from the internal threats of doubt, despair, and deception. Even when we are weak, He remains strong. Even when our grip loosens, His never does.

This protection doesn’t mean we are immune from hardship—but it does mean our future is never in jeopardy. Our salvation is not fragile. It is “ready to be revealed,” meaning it is complete and secured, awaiting its full unveiling when Christ returns. Until then, we are kept—guarded—by the One who holds the keys of life and death and who has sealed us with His Spirit.

Application

Rest today in the assurance that your faith is not alone—it is guarded by the power of God. When you feel overwhelmed, remember that your salvation is not pending review—it is secure. Let this truth give you courage to walk faithfully and joyfully, knowing that God Himself is your keeper.
