There are seasons when the next step feels overwhelming—when responsibilities loom large and fear whispers that we are not enough. Joshua stood on the edge of such a moment. Moses, the great leader of Israel, was gone, and the task of leading God’s people into the Promised Land now rested on his shoulders. Uncertainty, danger, and the weight of expectation surrounded him. And into that swirling fear, God spoke words not just for Joshua, but for every heart trembling at the edge of obedience.
“Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, BSB)
Devotional Thought
This is not a pep talk rooted in human strength—it is a divine command built on the foundation of God’s presence. God doesn’t simply say, “Be strong.” He says, I am with you. The call to courage is not about never feeling afraid. It’s about trusting the One who goes before us. Joshua’s strength didn’t come from his position or military strategy, but from the assurance that the Lord—faithful, unchanging, and near—was leading every step.
Jesus gives us this same promise. Before ascending, He said, “I am with you always.” The mission is great, the journey can be hard, but we are never alone. The Spirit of God dwells within us, equipping, guiding, and strengthening us in every task. What once felt impossible becomes possible when we remember whose presence empowers our steps. Courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s faith in the One who walks with us.
Application
Whatever you face today, face it with the confidence that God is with you. Speak this verse over your fear, over your hesitation, over the lies that say you’re not enough. Obey boldly, knowing that you are never sent alone.

Prayer
Father, when I feel afraid or overwhelmed, remind me that You are with me. Let Your presence drive out fear and fill me with strength. Make me bold, not in myself, but in You. Lead me in courage that trusts and obeys. In Jesus’ name, amen.
